Shooteo ergo sum…
J’ai toujours possédé un imaginaire très développé. Dès l’enfance, à la bibliothèque, je me rappelle avoir dévoré les romans du cycle des chevaliers de la table ronde, puis des romans historiques, et rapidement je suis passé à des lectures de science-fiction et de fantasy : Dune de Franck Herbert, La roue du temps de Robert Jordan, Hypérion de Dan Simmons, tous les Iain M. Banks, les Peter F. Hamilton, pour n’en citer que quelques-uns.
De même en musique, j’ai une attirance pour les artistes avec un univers consistant, poétique souvent, revisitant le genre de manière toujours très personnelle, je pense dans le désordre à Rodolphe Burger, Sigur Ros, Christophe, PJ Harvey, Alain Bashung, Sigur Ros, Jean-Louis Murat, Cat Power, Dominique A, Nick Cave, Yann Tiersen.
J’aime, à l’occasion de ces lectures ou écoutes, m’échapper du temps présent, rêver à une autre réalité. J’ai l’impression de rechercher la même finalité dans ma pratique photographique : mettre à jour un monde un peu différent, rêvé, décalé, selon ma vision très personnelle et particulière.
Je ne me contente pas de ce que j’ai devant mes yeux et j’essaie de transcender cette réalité, non pas forcément pour l’embellir, mais pour la “romancer” telle que je l’imagine.

I’ve always had a highly developed imagination. As a child, I remember devouring the Knights of the Round Table at the library, followed by historical novels, and I soon moved on to science fiction and fantasy: Dune by Franck Herbert, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, Hyperion by Dan Simmons, all the Iain M. Banks and Peter F. Hamilton books, to name but a few.
When it comes to music, I’m drawn to artists with a consistent, often poetic universe, who revisit the genre in a very personal way. I’m thinking, in no particular order, of Rodolphe Burger, Sigur Ros, Christophe, PJ Harvey, Alain Bashung, Jean-Louis Murat, Cat Power, Dominique A, Nick Cave and Yan Tiersen.
When I read or listen to music like this, I like to escape from the present and dream of another reality. I have the impression that I’m looking for the same goal in my photography: to bring to light a world that’s a little different, dreamy, offbeat, according to my very personal and particular vision.
I apply the same idea to my photos as I do to my reading or listening. I’m not content with what’s in front of my eyes and I try to transcend this reality, not necessarily to embellish it, but to ‘romanticise’ it as I imagine it.
